Facilities and Equipment
Getting the best treatment starts with a thorough examination and history. Determining the correct diagnosis is essential before determining the treatment plan for you. Dr. Young uses diagnostic ultrasound and digital x-rays (that can enlarge the area of concern on your foot). The newest state of the art techniques and time proven procedures are selected to help you heal as fast as possible. Onsite physical therapy and modern fully equipped operating/procedure rooms are staffed with trained and friendly staff. These compare well with the finest facilities in Chicago and with the convenience of being on site Arthroscopy and endoscopy procedures are available.
For heel pain that requires surgery, Dr. Young is trained on the Kobygard technique, a ten minute procedure that allows immediate walking and very quick recovery and resolution of plantar fasciitis. Young also provides Shockwave for heel pain that is not responsive to other treatment but where surgery is not determined.
Custom orthotics for sports or for dress shoes that will correct the problems with gait that are causing foot problems and deformities are made from casts of the foot. They improve your gait and your running. An assessment of your walking is made and when necessary physical therapy or athletic training is recommended.
Dr. Young is trained to provide wound care treatments including grafting with knowledge and experience. There are new treatments to aid and speed healing of wounds.
Digital X-Ray computerized digital x-rays allows us to pinpoint the source of pain with much greater detail than the usual x-rays
Diagnostic ultrasound: Ultrasound produces images of foreign bodies, soft tissue masses, edema, tendons and ligaments, plantar fasciitis. It can assist in guiding injections so that less cortisone is needed and the injection is more precise and accurate.
Mini C-arm. For fluoroscopy images (x-rays during surgery).
Shockwave therapy is a therapy for plantar fasciitis that has existed for over six months and has not responded to the many other treatments available. It reactivates stalled healing or chronic inflammation to encourage normal healing.
Kobygard technique for plantar fasciitis: A small incision is made and the Kobygard device is used to create a small release of the plantar fascia. Very effective. Fast recovery for plantar heel pain.
Osteocure cartilage replacement for arthritic bunion joints. Applied during surgery for arthritic first toe joints. Available for localized arthritic damage and avoids the need for fusion or replacement of the joint.
Pulsed dye laser as well as CO2 laser and hyfercation for treatment of plantar warts.
Sclerosing injections for painful nerve entrapments in lacerations and scars (relief of painful nerves in skin, without the need for surgery)
